This past weekend, I crossed the finish line of the Jones Beach Ironman 70.3, and let me tell you, it wasn’t the picturesque race day many of us envisioned. The weather decided to throw everything it had at us—non-stop rain and relentless winds that tested every ounce of physical and mental strength.
But here’s the thing: finishing this race, especially under those conditions, felt even more rewarding. It wasn’t just about the race but the journey that led me to that moment. The early mornings when the alarm went off at 4:30 a.m., the solo runs in the dark, the long rides in silence—those moments shaped my ability to endure whatever race day threw at me.
Plenty of times, it would’ve been easier to hit snooze or skip a session. But consistency—showing up daily, even when no one’s watching—got me across that finish line. The race may have been the ultimate test, but the real victory was built in those early mornings when it was just me and my determination.
Having my family there on race day, cheering me on despite the storm, made the experience all the more meaningful.
This race reaffirmed something I’ve always believed: anything is possible. Whether in sport, business, or life, it’s about showing up, putting in the work, and trusting that it will pay off, even when the conditions aren’t ideal.
The next challenge is already calling, but for now, I’m taking a moment to celebrate this victory—rain, wind, and all.
