A friend shared a handful of motivational quotes with me this week, and it was a good reminder of something I think a lot of us forget: inspiration doesn’t show up on schedule. It shifts. It evolves. Some days one quote fires you up. Other days a different one hits harder. And that’s fine — as long as you keep moving forward.

For those of us training toward big goals — like Ironman 2026 — these next few months matter more than the sunny ones. The cold, dark winter is where the foundation gets built. It’s where discipline wins and excuses lose.

My basement setup isn’t flashy: a bike trainer, a treadmill, and a basic bench. But the walls? They’re covered in the reminders I need on the days when energy is low and motivation is nowhere to be found:

Shut up legs, you’re fine.

Don’t forget why you started.

What hurts today makes you stronger tomorrow.

Pain is temporary, pride is forever.

Don’t stop when you’re tired. Stop when you’re done.

That last one has pulled me through more sessions than I can count.

But lately, a new one has been showing up everywhere in my feed:

“I do it anyways.”

It’s simple. It’s blunt. And it’s exactly what most of us need.

I’m tired… I do it anyways.
It’s freezing outside… I do it anyways.
I’m busy… I do it anyways.
I’m doubting myself… I do it anyways.

Because progress doesn’t care about perfect conditions — it cares that you showed up.

As you head into the weekend, take a minute and count your wins from this week. Even the small ones. Especially the small ones. They’re the reps that build the habits… and the habits that build the person you’re becoming.

Look back at what got you here. Then look forward at what’s still worth fighting for.

Have a great weekend — and I’ll see you Monday, ready to put in the work.
