Have you ever caught yourself comparing your journey to someone else’s highlight reel?

We all do it. But here’s the truth: comparison isn’t the enemy, perspective is.

Earlier this week, I found myself comparing my progress to someone far ahead in their career and fitness journey. For a moment, it felt deflating. Then I reframed the thought: instead of “I’m behind,” I asked, “What can I learn from their path?”

That shift turned comparison into inspiration. Instead of envy, I gained motivation. Instead of discouragement, I found clarity in the steps I can take next.

In business, this same principle applies. Competitors, colleagues, and industry leaders can either intimidate us or guide us. The difference lies in how we interpret the gap:

Comparison discourages when we focus on the distance.

Inspiration empowers when we focus on the direction.

Leaders who embody this mindset build teams that celebrate others’ successes and use them as fuel for their own growth.

I keep coming back to this book. In fact, I’ve loaned it out so often that most people I gave it to ended up buying their own copy shortly after. That says something.

So what is it about Atomic Habits that strikes such a chord? For me, it’s this simple truth: if you don’t use it, you lose it. Every time I take on a new challenge or big project, I find myself returning to the basics.

No big task scares me anymore. I’m training for an Ironman and what’s more daunting than that? Yet the lesson is the same: break down the massive goal into small, repeatable steps. Daily habits. Weekly wins. Small victories that add up to big outcomes.

Today, Atomic Habits is back on my desk, full of folded pages and sticky notes on the passages I need most right now. A reminder that progress isn’t magic it’s a system.

Focus on the next step. Build the habits that get you there.

This week, I learned a tough but necessary lesson: handling criticism and negativity without letting it define me.

Let’s be honest — criticism can sting. Whether it’s a passing comment or a full-on judgment, letting its negativity derail your mindset and momentum is easy. But what if we saw it differently? What if criticism wasn’t a stop sign but a signpost?

Here are three strategies I used this week (and that I hope you’ll try, too):

Pause Before Reacting Don’t swing back. Take a breath, give yourself space. Reacting emotionally might feel good at the moment, but responding with intention always wins in the long term.

Extract the Gold Even harsh feedback can contain a nugget of truth. Ask: Is there something I can learn here? Growth-minded people filter out the noise and focus on the lesson.

Reclaim Your Power Not all criticism deserves your energy. Sometimes, negativity says more about the other person than it does about you. Don’t hand your confidence over to someone who didn’t earn it.

Each time we rise above negativity, we grow stronger. We become more resilient. And that’s how we build a life worth being proud of — one decision, one reaction, one mindset shift at a time.

Your challenge for the week ahead: Try something three times:

1⃣ To get over the fear

2⃣ To learn how to do it

3⃣ To find out if it’s for you

Let your courage speak louder than the critics.

Thanks for your time — and have a Fantastic Friday

We’ve all been there—sending a quick “Sorry for the delay!” email or saying “Sorry to bother you” before asking a question. While apologies have their place, overusing “sorry” in professional settings can unintentionally undermine confidence and credibility.

Instead of defaulting to “sorry,” here are some alternatives that maintain professionalism while fostering positive communication:

Instead of “Sorry for the delay,” → “Thank you for your patience. “This shifts the focus to appreciation rather than apology. It acknowledges the delay without assuming unnecessary fault.

Instead of “Sorry to bother you,” → “Do you have a moment? “This makes the request sound more confident and respectful, rather than intrusive.

Instead of “Sorry for the mistake,” → “I appreciate your feedback. I’ll make the necessary changes. “Acknowledging and correcting mistakes without excessive apologizing shows accountability and proactiveness.

Instead of “Sorry, I don’t understand,” → “Could you clarify this for me? “This keeps the conversation open and constructive, promoting learning rather than self-blame.

Instead of “Sorry, I can’t make it,” → “I won’t be able to attend, but I’d love to catch up afterward. “This approach keeps the tone professional and proactive without unnecessary guilt.

Instead of “Sorry for being late,” → “Thank you for waiting for me.” Expressing gratitude instead of apologizing helps maintain a positive tone and acknowledges others’ patience.

By making small language changes, we can communicate confidently and create a more positive work environment. Words shape perception—how we speak impacts how we’re perceived.

Have you caught yourself over-apologizing at work? What phrases have you used instead? Let’s discuss this in the comments!

You had a great week—keep it up and have a Fantastic Friday!
